I feel you, dct. I almost always get more out of a first listen when I'm just in my car with the CD, or sprawled out on my bed with my headphones on and looking over the liner notes, etc. Certainly the idea that the experience of music might be influenced by peripheral, non-musical elements is not nearly as absurd to Jorge, who has touched on such things numerous times in his writings over the years, as he makes it seem.
