I suspect they all still absolutely love the creative process, but unfortunately they've reached that point, 30 years in, where if they don't play the hits, their crowds will dwindle. It's kind of unfortunate, but probably beyond their control.

Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
They are only playing a few songs off Gigaton because they made the executive decision to return to playing shows between 2 hours and 2.5 hours max. Between Eddie’s storytelling and the songs they have decided need to stay in nightly rotation, it leaves few spots for new songs.guitar_davey wrote:I think it's great that they still love creating.warehouse wrote:why would an artist want to make more art?guitar_davey wrote:Becuase they enjoy it?daft twat wrote:They’re not even playing Gigaton songs at these shows so why fucking bother with another collection of studio songs?

As for a collection of new songs, they last released an album in March of 2020, and it is now almost 30 months later, so they are more than due.

they've played all of gigaton live except 'comes than goes' i believe. but your point remains, it's not like they are gonna cut "alive" so they can fit in "alright"liebzz wrote:They are only playing a few songs off Gigaton because they made the executive decision to return to playing shows between 2 hours and 2.5 hours max. no it's not. there's at most two people at every concert who want to hear "Alright" over "Alive". i'm not sure some of you have even seen them live.

This doesn't really give any explanation. Slightly shortening the show length doesn't automatically mean cutting Gigaton songs.liebzz wrote:They are only playing a few songs off Gigaton because they made the executive decision to return to playing shows between 2 hours and 2.5 hours max. This might shock and appall, but they didn't play Alive at 4 of my first 5 Pearl Jam concerts.warehouse wrote:no it's not. there's at most two people at every concert who want to hear "Alright" over "Alive". i'm not sure some of you have even seen them live.

Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
Like 93% of all citizens of the countries they repeatedly tour have seen PJ. At any given show, at least 94% of that show’s attendance are repeat attendees. They’ve all seen “Alive” and “Even Flow” probably multiple times. Play “Insignificance” or “Rival” or “Cropduster”, you turds.
Are they really catering to the 13 people in the audience who might be seeing them for the first time?

They could play lots of popular songs without necessarily including 6-7 Ten songs, if they wanted.

I think I only got it once in 4 shows? All 98 or 03.Monkey_Driven wrote:2000 Tour?Captain Termite wrote:This might shock and appall, but they didn't play Alive at 4 of my first 5 Pearl Jam concerts.warehouse wrote:no it's not. there's at most two people at every concert who want to hear "Alright" over "Alive". i'm not sure some of you have even seen them live.
But this is all very silly. They could play alive, even flow, black, daughter, better man, and corduroy, or whatever, and still have like 19 spots left in the set list. There’s no big trade off of causal fan content necessary to make room for new material.

Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
I would be fine with only 8-10 "staples" per show out of a rotation of 20-25 songs. An ideal 22 song set:
8-10 hits
5-6 Gigaton Songs
5-6 deeper cuts
2 covers/super rarities
8-10 hits
5-6 Gigaton Songs
5-6 deeper cuts
2 covers/super rarities

Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
I don't really understand the argument that it's been 2 years since Gigaton was released, it's normal they hardly play new stuff anymore. Listened to Montreal 2000 yesterday (just randomly), that's 5 Yield songs & no Alive, Jeremy & Black. Terrible show.

I would love a show with zero songs from Ten or Vs.
