On Tuesday I had a chunk of my ear taken off for a biopsy (thankfully benign). Sleeping is a bitch. Damn tired and grumpy. Could smash a doughnut or piece of chocolate. More coffee.

today is our 22nd wedding anniversary..nothing planned as we're too busy getting ready to leave on saturday..having drinks and a charcuterie spread later today with friends on the patio..we have a nice bottle of champagne to share..i don't like champagne so i have a nice scotch..might get drunk..going to get poke for lunch..thats the place i'm going to miss the most

Mom called me first thing this morning, just after 8. I was still in bed. She told me her dog had died overnight and asked me to come bury him. Smokey was 13 and it had become obvious his time was getting close. Mom had mentioned she would likely have to put him down before the end of the year.
But he went out on his on terms. He woke my mom up around 2am. She was thinking he had to go out; he had started doing that sometimes in the middle of night lately. She said he drank some water and just sat at her feet. She went to her chair, where he followed and sat down before laying all the down, nuzzling his head against her foot. She said he died in that position a little while later. She got up and put an old towel around him.
I came over this morning and buried him on the edge of the woods on the far side of the yard. You can’t have a dog that long without getting sad when they die. He was probably the smartest dog we ever had too.
