Re: The National
Yeah from I've seen on YouTube he never sounds great in a big concert setting, but he sounds really good in smaller places when he's not drunk. Luckily St. Louis is a smaller venue. Unluckily, there are many breweries nearby.VinylGuy wrote:saw a bit of their show in the primavera fest this year and yeez Matt´s voice was a mess.

Re: The National
not crazy about Weird Goodbyes. i don't hate it, but i'd like to hear it in a live setting (not a youtube clip) to see if i like it better. hopefully, I'll get to when i see them next month.
also, i don't know if Matt's voice was buried a little more in the mix of previous albums, but 2022 Matt's vocals, upfront as they are in this song...not too sure about it yet.

Re: The National
I toyed with the idea of seeing PJ in Nashville, The National in STL, and then PJ in STL next month, but the idea of three concerts in three nights sounded like a bit too much.tree_ wrote:Yeah from I've seen on YouTube he never sounds great in a big concert setting, but he sounds really good in smaller places when he's not drunk. They still haven't announced the most recent fan club LP....my pet theory is they're just going to send everyone the new album.

Re: The National
The new track doesn't feel like a National tune. I don't hear any layering or musical interplay and the electronic beat just doesn't jive with Matt's juxtaposed vox. I also have never enjoyed anything Bon Iver has done so that isn't helping it for me. Happy to hear anything they try in the studio though just don't feel I'll be revisiting this one much.
I wouldn't expect them to care that little about album sales but who knows.Simple Torture wrote:They still haven't announced the most recent fan club LP....my pet theory is they're just going to send everyone the new album.

Yeah, this doesn't bode well for the whole "classic National sound" that Bryce said the album would have.

It and High Violet are so close for me. I don't feel the need to pick one over the other at least.dad wrote:i played the older material today just to feel something.

Re: The National
you said it right, though. the new song sounds like something off of sleep well beast, which is probably my least favorite, and it took me a while to warm up to IAETF.Chris_H_2 wrote:Ohnothenewsingledoesntsoundlikealligatororboxer!
i don't want them to make another Alligator or Boxer.
please calm down.

Re: The National
what i'm trying to say is i don't want Bryan to program a drum machine. i want a natural drum sound...whatever that is.

Re: The National
One of my favorite songs is I’ll Still Destroy You which has the preprogrammed loop (and shared the same intro as outros in both Sleep Well Beast and So Far So Fast).
