Seraphim Falls (2006)

Decided to rewatch this. Haven’t seen it in many years.

Come the fuck on and see a movie I'm not that interested in just because everyone else loves it?

The story and the ending sort of ruin a good movie. The acting, the cinematography, the revenge plot, are all fine. But the main background story is too much, and the end sequence is kind of lame and slow. If they kept it a little simpler, same actors, same director, etc., and it could be great.

Still a fine western made in the 21st century.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Weird but ok

I've never seen Top Gun and based on the clips I've seen I have no interest in ever doing so, but I loved Maverick.

It was such an amazing spectacle. I'd compare it to seeing Jurassic Park in the theater for a the first time.

Very mediocre. Kind of like what people think of when they point to poor and typical Marvel/superhero movies.

Would it surprise you to know that I was underwhelmed by Jurassic Park the first time I saw it?

Before TVG gets all moody about it, I've since come to really enjoy the movie. But I'd finished the book the night before seeing it and it just did not hold up for me in that context. The VFX were certainly, undeniably good. But of Socrates' six elements of drama, spectacle has always been in last place for me.

Over the weekend watched
Me Time - this was mearly alright
Prey - Loved this. This is what I wanted from a Predator movie
Thirteen Lives - despite knowing the outcome - this kept me on the edge of my seat and was really good

.....also - the original Top Gun is marginally better than Maverick, and that is a hill I will die on

Maverick must be the worst movie ever then.
