This all hinges on which one of us is Barrowman, you know.
You must know by now that I don't mind being Barrowman.
That's good. I don't have the hair for it. Like, at all.

So apparently Pearl Jam still make songs I guess. And I even like some.

on second listen My Father's Son is pretty decent, but it's lacking a few fierce solo riffs - just a few hard riffs with some heavy distortion would lift this to another level...

The chorus sounds like Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful'. :?
Ugg, I totally heard that too, but couldn't figure out who sang that.

I really want to love the song too. The rest of it is great, but that chorus melody just knocks it down a peg or two. Not that it's bad, just that I'm always going to automatically associate the two songs now. :(

I love pendulum, but it sounds to me like a song that on another album would be a track to add colour or bridge two halves or something, a bit like the 'filler' songs in vitalogy. But its not really doing that here cause the albums so all over the place

I dunno if that makes sense.

Of course you do, I never doubted it for a second. That's what was so *annoying* about the whole thing.

Its strange. I have a few friends who were hardcore, seen at least 20+ shows and have been on the PJ train since young teens...

But the last few years have really soured them ( I suppose I was getting to that point...) mainly because they didnt like Backspacer. Ok, i get it, it was a strange offering and its been 4 years, but in the end that was really 1 album that they didnt at least like. 8 out of 9 albums were good to amazing....

I think that says to the emotional investment (for better or worse) many people have committed to the band.

I mostly disliked S/T, and I ended up finding Backspacer decent but unsatisfying. The last time I loved this band to death was 2006. The last great album to me was Riot Act. I'm still hoping they can pull me back in, and they're on a better track with LB.

This is a solid assessment. edit: Actually, I think I'd give Riot Act a 6.5/10 and Avocado a 6/10.

Dead on, man.

This has a handful of pretty cool songs, that's really about where my expectations sit at this point.

exactly. while i'm happy I enjoy this better than Backspacer (and probably Riot Act), it is at the end of the day... YAAPJA

(Yet another average Pearl Jam album)

i'll i'm asking for is an album with 3-4 amazing songs, 5-6 solid ones, and 2-3 stinkers...
