Parents getting old
After dislocating her hip and breaking her femur, my mom made it to the rehab facility earlier this week. It's a facility that's part of a nursing home. I've already had the thoughts of my folks slowly declining, and it feels all the more real now.
Also she's going to need a wheelchair when she goes home, and there's a shortage. Someone find one and bring it to me.

The cousin of Mrs Wease we moved to LA earlier in the year has 3 just sitting here. She won’t let us donate them or anything. She just wants them to sit here unused.
How old is your mom?

She would probably get over the hip fairly quickly, but the fractured femur will probably impede progress. They had my mom up and walking two hours after her hip surgery.

Well she had the hip replaced a few weeks ago, and had to stay in the hospital longer than normal due to blood leaking from the incision and low blood pressure. Then a few days later had the fall, then had the same issues preventing her from getting to rehab sooner. It's going to be a long road. She also needs a knee replacement on the same side.wease wrote:She would probably get over the hip fairly quickly, but the fractured femur will probably impede progress. My mom is still doing ok, but certainly feels her age (74). She is selling my childhood home now, was too much for her to take care of, even with help.

Lenny did she/you look into Medicare for a wheelchair? Also there are nonprofits that specialize in mobility assistance

I thought about Medicare after I got off the phone with her earlier. I need to ask my dad.bart wrote:Lenny did she/you look into Medicare for a wheelchair? Also there are nonprofits that specialize in mobility assistance

The most important is her health and happiness. She has various aches and troubles.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:That's tough to see also.Anders wrote:My mom is still doing ok, but certainly feels her age (74). She is selling my childhood home now, was too much for her to take care of, even with help.
Will be sad to see the place go (with the forest behind the house, the fjord in front of it), but that's life. I've been there only a few weeks each year lately. My mom is even thinking of moving to the city I live in, may see her more going forward.
