Han knew that as well, and would have helped Boba if they crossed paths in this series. He even went back to his old ways between Jedi and Force.

I'm trying not to be too sarcastic here because that's backfired on me today in a big way.

So, in all sincerity, I haven't seen Dances With Wolves. But I'm not sure how Boba's story with the Raiders is a coded white savior story. Can you extrapolate it for me?

Boba Fett is the colonial class who must save the native people from the threat (the Pyke) that they are unable defeat because of their backwards, neo-luddism. In the process he discovers himself by way of their mystical ceremonies.

Here's the plot of Dances with Wolves.

A Civil War soldier develops a relationship with a band of Lakota Indians. Attracted by the simplicity of their lifestyle, he chooses to leave his former life behind to be with them. Having observed him, they give the name Dances With Wolves. Soon he is a welcomed member of the tribe and falls in love with a white woman who has been raised in the tribe. Tragedy results when Union soldiers arrive with designs on the land.

Maybe this should be moved to the Fett thread, but to be clear, there are obvious issues with the storyline in BoBF. It's problematic af! But the "white savior" trope is an angle I hadn't seen discussed. I'm reading some articles right now about that framing. I'm surprised I missed so much of this controversy/conversation in real time.

I do remember reading/hearing these takes when BOBF was airing. I do not know if anyone has asked Temuera Morrison about it directly, but I would be interested to hear his take.

Very well could be. Before Attack of the Clones, his best-known role was probably Once Were Warriors (shout-out to the RM Film Club, you were too beautiful for this world), which was all about postcolonialism in New Zealand. I am sure the filmmakers were aware of his history.

Maybe, what does "person of color" even mean in the Star Wars universe. "Colonizer" and "indigenous people" have meaning, but race and color mean less.
