I haven’t seen this movie but I agree with Burt, this seems like a caricature of the typical navel gazing Hollywood bildungsroman.

Weird take on Boogie Nights.

I’m not as big on boogie nights as I used to be but at least that came before the two trillion other I Love the 70s/80s! movies.

I wouldn't call either a caricature, but at least the porn industry is interesting, especially at the time. I have no interest in the lives of mundane and mediocre nobodies. I have enough of that in the real world! Low art!

I also stopped caring about the lives of teenagers when I turned 20.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
