Three mountain passes, 160 miles, completed in 28 hours. I've done 2 night runs just to get used to that feeling of running late and in the dark. Done a few high elevation runs. I was running about 8 miles a week until 5 weeks ago when I was asked to join. This is the first time I've trained for anything and I really enjoyed the "focus" of it. I don't know if a relay will happen again, but I think races will be something I try to get involved with.
I don't post much at all, but Lenny you are such a positive person. Thanks for building everyone up!
Just saw this. How long was your stretch? Sounds wild.
It's a mixture of being impressed and jealous, but I try.
It was amazing and I highly recommend it. Felt like being back in college. Blasting 90's music, trying to get each person to their exchange, shuttling to a VRBO to sleep for 2 hours and then back in the van to do the next legs. Beer and burritos waiting for your team at the end. Tons of fun.
Leg 1: 6.3 miles (2:00 PM), 1200 foot elevation gain, 1100 foot elevation drop. Started at 8600, got to 9800 and back down to 8700. Ran some on the Colorado Trail, with South Park out to my left through an amazing aspen forest. Had the runners high after this one for sure.
Leg 2: 4 miles at 1:00 AM. Ran up and into Leadville (10,200 feet) the highest city in the US. TOUGH run, but passed to older ladies on the way up
Leg 3: 6.3 and the last leg of the relay (10:00 AM). Right beside the Arkansas River, with the collegiate peaks out the west. Very tough run, but kept a 8:23 pace which shocked me.
