How famous is _________?

Post by Bammer »

Was it necessary for wease to note that he is in Foo Fighters, or is he famous enough on his own?
wease wrote:If you stay for Sunday night, there are some great acts too. The Doobies, Marcus King, Mike Campbell and Sierra Hull. Sierra is the niece of a good buddy of mine. She’s recorded and toured with a LOT of people. Most recently Chris Shiflett from the Foos.

What is fascinating about this is context.

I come here or a Candlebox super fan forum, and Dave Krusen needs no introduction.

If I go to the supermarket, and tell the clerk at the register about Dave Krusen, I might need to say “the drummer for Pearl Jam on Ten.” And in this day in age, “the drummer for Pearl Jam on Ten, which is from the 1990s well before you were born playing music not through a computer program. Pearl Jam and the album Ten were a seminal part of a rock music movement circa 1991 that largely changed the pop music landscape for approximately 4-5 years. Over the hill folks from that time continue to largely stand around lamenting other folks’ music tastes and are still apparently waiting for the next great rock music revolution despite the emergence of rock bands like Radiohead, the White Stripes and Arcade Fire and the subsequent threads those bands lead into the mainstream consciousness from the late 1990s through the early aughts.”

I guess I didn’t think he was famous enough. Do non-fans know anyone beyond Dave and Taylor from the band? Hell, do fans really know all of them? They’ve added a keyboard player and I have no idea what his name is.

Interesting question.

Gene Simmons is far and away a more household name than anyone else listed in this thread.

Danny Carey is not famous enough. Art Alexakis is more famous, but still not famous enough to not need the ".... from Everclear."
