I feel as though ranking such songs would be like comparing the bowel movements of various wildlife.

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
Just finished my first listen-through...
Getaway: still love it.
MYM: good.
MFS: really like it, start is kinda odd, but really picks up and ends well.
Sirens: like it less now in this slot/in the albums bigger picture.
LB: decent.
Infallible: the music is dark and the lyrics/melodies don't seem to match, but I really like it, some odd parts, but it's good.
Pendulum: best song on the album; I'd like this one as an instrumental too.
SW: still decent.
LTRP: meh, nice groove.
SBM: not as bad as I thought it would be, but a waste of space on this album.
YM: decent to good.
FD: sounds really good, like all the little bits and touches, still hate the piano ending, too similar/formulaic to JB ending BS, like this better than SBM.
First impressions overall: sequencing is odd, some good to great songs, some mehs, and some clunkers. Eddie sounds great, guitars sound great, drumming is great, production is great. Better than BS, which is their worst album in my opinion, not sure if it beats S/T.

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
This album would've been better if it had come out in 2011 and we were now getting album 11. When you're making something average like this, it's a dick move to make people wait four years for it. There are good songs on here, but almost the whole second side is like being stuck in a tar pit of schmaltz. It's not Backspacer, at least.
The first three songs are a great foundation (save the bridge of MFS), and even Sirens and Infallible have some spirit to them. LB is okay. Pendulum is moody, which is good, but it's a minor track (even "Of the Girl" had the "How he makes his getaway" hook).
I was gonna get the LP, but now I dunno. I can probably get the CD if it's just gonna sit there.
This is their best thing in a while. I think Getaway is great, and MYM won't ruin any shows. MFS has guts and motion. But we're still missing a lot of substance and feeling. PJ for the last decade-plus has been going through the motions way too much. "Yehehelllowwwwmooon on the rise" isn't a good enough chorus, Ed.
Get these guys in a room and make them make an album in two weeks, like how they came up with their first album. This should not have taken four years.

Either Release is worse that Future Days or Parting Ways is. Either way it's laughable.tommymctom wrote:Is this a top 10, bottom 10 or random 10?IlluminEddie wrote:BurtReynolds wrote:Future days might be their worst song ever. Worse than the fixer.

Ok...lets pretend it looked like this instead:
Getaway
MYM
MFS
Lightning Bolt
Infallible
Let It Ride
Sirens
Swallowed Whole
Cold Confession
LTRP
Yellow Moon
Pendulum
How much of a better album would this be? I can't believe Pendulum isn't the closer. It screams for it.

Anyone who says that ANYTHING on this album is "best since Yield" or "best since Vitalogy" should have their heads examined immediately. The praise for this album is really getting over the top. I'm starting to think that you guys will accept any pile of feces that is flung at you.

Seriously, if Sirens is a Pink Floyd song it's Learning To Fly.
