I burned a copy for my car with Pendulum as the closer and injected Cold Confession and Let it Ride in to the track list. Bumped FD and SBM to the end of the cd and will probably skip them most of the time.

Seriously, if Sirens is a Pink Floyd song it's Learning To Fly.

This post makes my brain hurt. Pink Floyd were approx. 100 times the band Pearl Jam were (or ever will be) and "Learning to Fly" isn't even a bad song.

There's a quote from one of those listening parties, something along the lines of "half of this was the record I was really hoping PJ would make, and half of it just sounds tired or bad", which is kind of how I feel about it. There's some really cool songs (or, far more often, parts of songs) lined up right next to things that make me scratch my head.

I'm also ready to call for dumping O'Brien. I don't know if he's at fault, or just the combination of him and the band, but there's something about the way this record and the last record sound that seem to emphasize all of the band's weaknesses while dulling all of their strengths, even when the songs themselves have some great ideas in them.

I don't get how you could like Backspacer and hate this. They are very much in the same vein.

Easy. Backspacer has better songs.

And it isn't saying much that I "like" Backspacer. I still think it's their second worst album. Actually third worst now.

With a couple exceptions I have very few problems with BS and I hate LB. Even if you hate BS at least it's over quick. LB just meanders pointlessly.
