I would say that it was their "Presence" if we were talking about Led Zeppelin, though there is nothing on Lightning Bolt even remotely as triumphant as "Achilles Last Stand".
I've only listened to Lighting Bolt live, Future Days live and MYM but I'm 99% sure your post is utterly full of BS. Why not just be honest about it? Presence? Even worse, Dirty Work?!!!! Come on, what's your ulterior motive? WHAT ARE YOU SOME KIND OF FREAKING TROLL? lol
yeah that looked like negating for the sake of negating
I don't think there's anything 'trolling' about saying he doesn't connect with the songwriting or find any substance in the songs. Sounds like a calm and considered opinion to me. And in any case, as Spenno said - why do negative opinions need to be justified any more than positive ones?

People need to just be okay with enjoying the new album without wasting their time trying to convince others who clearly don't connect with where PJ is at songwriting-wise. Put your opinions out there, you'll find people who agree and others who don't - that's what interneting is for.

You missed the irony of my troll reference. But anyway, I've read everything under the sun here about the new album and I think it's pretty safe to claim the album has a lot of "substance" musically/instrumentally, if nothing else. Lastly, Dirty Work???

Yeah thanks Stip! A very even-headed review for something only 'released' today.

Sorry man, I get the troll comment now - I hadn't read the past 20 pages or so (and most likely won't :P ).

I agree that there's substance to a lot of LB (some songs more than others), but if someone says they don't connect with it - that should be enough "justification".

On the other hand, obviously message-board conversations are going to be more engaging if some thought behind opinions is given - that's why I always enjoy reading what people like Stip and KD have to say (even when I don't agree, though I suspect I do more often than many here).

As for 'Dirty Work' - I'm not up on my Stones history, that's an insult right? ;)

Goobers, one and all!

Most people seem to be digging the album from what I've seen.

As usual, it seems there's more posts complaining about negativity than there is legitimately negative posts - and even if 80% of the posters here did hate the album, so what? Who fuckin' cares?
Please, we're trying to celebrate a major event here.

Now that I've had a few listens to it, I'm probably going to pre-order the LP. Aside from a few dud tunes this is much better than I expected after hearing the early live tracks and that handful of leaked tunes. Miles better than Backspacer thats for sure.

LTRP a low point

The rest is great
Those 3 are my least favorite songs on the album. SBM is the one I'm in a battle with. I think it may be because I know BoB pushed for it and I hate that he had the power of persuasion over the band. I personally think some weird Ed Bugs type song would have worked better. But that's a small problem overall because I think the album is amazing.

Not bad at all

I was expecting something worse ,

a couple of things that annoy me, there's too much an acoustic guitars, ed's voice is too loud, and mostly annoying is keyboards, they're everywhere

from the vignette snippets i've made extended versions of pendulum/infallible

As an album? Nope.

Do I think pearl jam are ever gonna make that one awesome album I thought they had left in them? Nope.

Does BoB need to GTFO? Yes.

Does Ed needs to stop with those kiddy pop choruses/bridges? Yes.

Should they veto the songs mike and BoB like the most automatically? Probably

I don't really care about the "negativity" but I can understand where the complaining about it comes from. It is just a little more annoying to read "Man, this song just sucks" without explanation about a song you like quite a bit than it is to hear an unexplained positive statement. They both don't have a lot of value but the first one can annoy you. And sometimes there's exaggerated negativity that feels more like shtick than honest opinions saying that some of the songs are "absolutely horrible".
