Maybe, but he needs another four+ year stretch matching his best seasons to be considered.

Do you mean four consecutive years? I'm not sure he needs that exactly. Scandal and potential injuries notwithstanding, if he gets 3,000 hits or very close I think he's in.

There’s a small chance he makes it.

It'll be interesting if he gets to even 2800 hits, which is essentially the cutoff for the HOF.

Here's a fun trivia question: putting aside the players who would be in the HOF if not for off-field issues (your steroid users, Pete Rose, and Omar Vizquel) and active players/recent retirees whose eligibility isn't up, who has the most hits without being elected to the HOF?
Spoiler: show
As far as I can tell, it's Johnny Damon with 2769 hits.

The actives/recent retirees ahead of him are Pujols, Miggy, Ichiro, and Beltre.

Interesting. I thought for about ten seconds and guessed Jimmy Rollins.

Thoughts on Scott Rolen.

Career .281 and I think just under 2,100 hits.

Did not agree with this one. He doesn't feel Hall of Fame worthy.

I don't think someone's case should be made on some isolated stat alone (especially batting average), but Rolen is still fringe for me. I guess the case is made looking at his long-term consistency and the fact that he was a solid player in the steroid era who never had that stink on him.

He's probably in for more defense.

I think as the years go on you'll see an adjustment on how players are rated in terms of hall of fame worthiness. Are careers trending shorter? Will rules changes (like this coming years pitch clock and no infield shifts) affect player stats?
