Apologies

Post by JuanHamm »

How often do you find yourself apologizing?

Are you good at it?

Will you apologize if you're not wrong to smooth things over?

Will you refuse to apologize when wrong? (Damn your pride)

O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.

Often. Daily?

Depends on the person

Um...

No, I'm usually quick to admit I'm wrong

Gotta own your mistakes. If I need to apologise I tend to do so pretty quickly and reasonably well. I stuff up fairly regularly I guess, so this happens reasonably often - at least weekly.

Interestingly I find it far easier to apologise in a professional setting than a personal one. I mean that if my error/omission is work related I tend to find it simple to apologise and do so quickly. Personal problems seem to take me longer to get around to. Its crazy how we allow ourselves to take advantage of those that are closest to us.

Having said that I literally just apologised to the most important person in my life just last night. I feel better for it, I always do.

I run my own small accounting practice and have a really great relationship with the vast majority of my client base. With what's been going on in my personal life these past 6 months I've not prioritised my clients as much as I always had in the past and on occasion that has warranted apology from my end. I'm cool with it.

If I was working in the guts of a big corporate environment though? Nah, wouldn't be apologising there. That would just be a sign of weakness that would have the sharks circling for whatever feed they were after from me that day. Big time corporate environments can go suck a bag of dicks.
