At least in PA, the following is considered child abuse:

(3) Causing or substantially contributing to serious mental injury to a child through any act or failure to act or a series of such acts or failures to act.

Being that gender dysphoria is : a sense of unease that a person may have because of a mismatch between their biological sex and their gender identity. This sense of unease or dissatisfaction may be so intense it can lead to depression and anxiety and have a harmful impact on daily life. , then this makes sense.

It seems that Virginia just wants to put that explicit act of abuse written into law. Not sure why it's "controversial" unless people don't understand that kids are suffering and this law would help them.

Rehabilitation and counseling for the parents/kids is also part of the legal process with regard to child abuse/child protective services. It's not just punishment. But calling abuse by its name is the first step.

Some positive action here. The Virginia ACLU and leading Democrats in the state have come out against this ridiculous bill and it's the sponsor now says she won't bring it to session. Saner heads must prevail as society seeks to balance the protect of vulnerable youth with the role of parents.

what will you do when you come up against neopronouns? "fae / faer", "ze / hir", even "it / its"? my genderfluid partner goes by those last pair sometimes, and they deserve to have that respected
