I'm going to be really annoyed if they downtune any of these songs.

I don't think it can be over stated how amazing it is for a singer pushing 50 to deliver one of the most difficult vocal performances of his career.
Will he nail this consistently live? no way. But that is a minor negative.
The notes he hits are goosebump special.

Re: Infallible
I'd much rather him hit the notes on record so we have that document forever (and ever).
Whether he hits the notes in concert (he won't) is much less important to me.

Re: Infallible
My disappointment in this song has almost single-handedly ruined the rest of the album for me. It was the song I was most looking forward to.
I can't get over how much I hate the chorus. I gave it like 30 listens today. It's vomit. Cringe inducing. Even my older sister said the chorus sounded corny. They ruined what could have been a good song. Even the instrumentation is nowhere near as heavy as it should have been. Instead it sounds like a weird quirky experiment. The solo is a redeeming quality, but god that chorus.
In fact as I'm typing this, "You Are" just shuffled and came on my iPOD. SEE, THIS SONG IS AWESOME. This is more what Infallible should have been.
Fuck Infallible.

Re: Infallible
I like this track but I can see where it stumbles and falls short. You Are is a good benchmark for it I agree. Sure the chorus is popular mainstream and sounds incredibly familiar but it isn't that bad.
My main gripe is that the instrumentation didn't go far enough. Some glitchy fart distortion noises in there plus a dirtier guitar or synth part. Thinking 65 days of static or even the lips' yoshimi type of approach. Just seems a bit safe.

The melody of the chorus itself is not horrible. It just completely changes the song from this dark groovy romp, to this super corny cheesy "We Are The World" type bullshit. It's such a drastic change in tone and it doesn't match. It's like one second I'm "Aww yeah I like what I'm hearing" to "WTF is this shit" And the "Yeah Yeah Yeah's" near the end are especially vomit inducing.
There are very few PJ songs I outright dislike, this might actually be a first

I think you may be correct here but sonically You Are and Infallible could have been lost brothers.stip wrote:this song is a LOT better than you are.
I think I'm in the minority here as I love Marker and I don't feel the chorus lets the track down. I think Infallible will be similar for me too. It's just that at the moment that first line in the chorus is naggingly familiar.

I hear you. I see the connection.
And I agree with you re: Marker's chorus.
Infallible got a few listens today, and I really like the chorus, and think the change in tone is really important for the song.
