obviously that's subjective but it seems the fans that follow the band's tours definitely have been less than impressed, even from the fan communities that rarely do anything but ballwash anything dave matthews does. jeff coffin even temporarily stopped posting show images/info on his socials because he was getting so much flak (which is ridiculous and another issue entirely). from fans' perpectives, shows so far had been more or less an extension of the summer tour sets with even less variety and many notable songs being left on the shelf. and even last night didn't stray too far from that, but there were way less 'songs dave loves but many fans don't' last night than any other show so far this tour- no can't stop, for example.

for me personally, when i see the band these days i don't ever anticipate getting a show where i'll like everything played, or even half of what's played, because dave matthews' taste and choice in showcasing his own music doesn't seem to align with mine, but last night was definitely an exception. i still like going to shows, obviously, but i'm pretty sure i've already seen the best dave matthews band show i'll ever see. when i go now, i go to just take in the music and musicianship and hope i'll enjoy most of it. sometimes i won't. last night i enjoyed pretty much all of it. it's not the best set for my tastes, but there isn't a song on there that i outright dislike. i liked the feeling that, from rapunzel on, that any one of those songs could have closed the set, and then they just played another song. nancies>warehouse was probably the peak of the show, and it came at the right time. this shows song flow was really good.

to respond to warehouse's comments- i do like madman's eyes but i don't love it. i can say it's the type of song i didn't think this band would strongly get behind with this lineup- it's very much a sibling to songs like minarets, squirm, and last stop. still, after hearing/listening to madman's eyes a few times now i can say i'd rather hear any of the other three, but of any of the new, as-yet-unreleased songs they've been playing the last couple of tours it is the clear highlight of the batch.

i love those three songs, so of course 'madman's eyes' is right up my alley. the other 'new' songs are fine, but those are the type of songs i expect from them now. 'madman's eyes' is coming from a totally different place.

nancies>warehouse is the peak of every dmb show they play it. this is what they should play if they ever get into the rock n roll hall of fame. "could i have been, in the rock n roll hall of fame?" would be perfect, and i'm pretty sure i've convinced you all by now that 'warehouse' is the bands best song.

if they ever get into the HOF, the three songs (from different albums) will be:

no way. bring boyd back. 25 minutes, 2 songs. most of those minutes will be violin, sax and guitar solos. two songs they've been playing back-to-back their entire career regularly. neither are radio songs. its the perfect example of who dmb is.

It still blows my mind how natural their cover of Sledgehammer is.

if 'that dumpster fire of a thread at ants' ( :haha: ) is to be believed, it is 'internally produced' by one or a combination of alagia, evans, or band self-produced, with the basic info coming from jeff via a radio interview he recently did.

I'm not the biggest DMB fan in the world but the version of Crash Into Me by Dave and Tim at Luthier Hall (?) is God damn perfect.

Alagia produced Remember Two Things with the band and had some pre-production duties on Crash and Before These Crowded Streets. He never actually played with the band, extra studio vox for Under the Table and Dreaming hardly counts.
