Ti West is getting dunked on pretty hard by Film Twitter for his Sight & Sound top 10 list

Of course these are all great films but the list feels a little... anonymous? No real personality here, like he Googled "top 10 important movies." And this particular group of films doesn't really convey the type of filmmaker he is.

This is all to say I don't think the pile-on is warranted but I also sort of get it. What do you guys think

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Apocalypse Now is the only one of those that would make my list.

It's already subjective but then when there's no criteria things can and should be all over the place. I don't have a problem with either of those lists. And I can't pretend to know what criteria each of those people used to make their list.

Listened to The Big Picture podcast from The Ringer today. Their episode is their own Top 5 of 2022 but the spent the first chunk of the episode talking about the Sight & Sound list and discussing the expectations/politics/etc around it. Good listen.

I don't love the Matrix reference in the new John Wick trailer. In fact, I hate it!

I know it has a huge following, but I wasn’t in love with the first John Wick. How do the sequels compare?
