Agreed though. A huge solo would have elevated it
I think it's a refreshing change when not every PJ is paint-by-numbers.
Agreed. They make a lot of changes to usual song conventions on this album that I like.

You know what that's it.

It doesn't really have a previous frame of reference. There's nothing really like it.

Hope they nail it live.

I can see them being excited about playing this one.

It could rock and sound even heavier live.

It just sounds like a scorching solo is about to come screaming out of the bridge. Even a short quick one like MYM would have sufficed. Love everything else about the song, has this twisted demented atmosphere. The atmospheric guitars and bass line remind me of some Mars Volta.

Guys, this song is immensely great.

Better than anything else on the album by a country mile.

One of five 5 star songs on this album for me. Excellent. Everything they do here just works. Including the bridge. It's the sort of contrast I really like.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Great great song!
I understand the reviewers for not raving about this one as its hard on first listening, but it grows like hell after repeated listens. One of the coolest PJ tracks in quite awhile, should have a couple more of these songs..

I like this one, esp the bridge, but I think this might be second from the bottom for mr.

I quite like the way Pearl Jam do this, when it works. The guitars aren't as furious as they should be for the rest of the song, so I think the contrast helps to make those parts sound more aggressive.

Unless lyrics are about, I don't know, white supremacy or something, I really can't fathom how they could ruin a song that sounds good to your ear. The actual words themselves are of neglible importance to me, it's the pure sound of the vocal (the musical effect of the choices of vowels, consonants and syllables, the phrasing, etc.) that really matters.

I'm really surprised at the issue people have with these lyrics, especially given some of EV's other clunkers from recent years. Do people get that's he's writing in character? (a la Johnny Guitar)

I tend to agree. The only song I've ever liked less after knowing the lyrics was Roland by Interpol.
