Lament wrote:Guys, Vitalogy, No Code, Yield, Binaural, and Riot Act are all pretty different records. This idea that there's some "Middle-Period Pearl Jam Fan" who is longing for them to return to the "sound" from this era is silly. They covered a decent bit of ground in these years, and the reason so many of us are attached to these is records isn't because they sound a certain way, it's because THEY'RE REALLY FUCKING GOOD. SOMETIMES EVEN GREAT. I don't know why it's so easy to dismiss the idea that people like these albums because they're of a higher quality than other albums.

I actually said previously that anybody who thinks "Lightning Bolt" is a better album than "Binaural" needs to have their head examined immediately. Not quite "no way is that possible" but it's generally the same sentiment.Lament wrote:Except no one involved in the conversation said this.Tuolumne wrote:2) that your opinion is the objective truth and no one can think the last 3 records are better than a previous era, cause there's just no way that is possible.

Then I apologize. I had no recollection of reading that.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:I actually said previously that anybody who thinks "Lightning Bolt" is a better album than "Binaural" needs to have their head examined immediately. I've come to the conclusion ( after being here ONLY around the time of a new release ) for each of the last few albums ( under various usernames ).....that I don't give a shit what anyone thinks about each new record......and no one should care what I think. Damn that was easy.

Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
Just made a playlist of MFS/Inf/Pend/YM, time to catch these ones up to the other 4 leaked songs and the others. MFS/Inf/Pend/YM might be my favourites from LB, odd that these were the ones not to leak...

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
And judging from the Jeff Getaway Vignette, it seems like he co-wrote alot of the song, basically writing most of the vocal melody. He's gotta get a writing credit for that.

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
I actually like the fact that the piano playing at the start is out of tone. That gives it a raw edge. It would have destroyed the fragile balance of this song if it was smooth.theplatypus wrote:verb_to_trust wrote:A lot of people may think the piano at the beginning of Future Days is some wannabe Bruce Springteen shit that BOB came up with but its actually an old vault recording of Ed's first child being aborted from 1992. That's not an electric piano, its a doctor drumming his claws and hammers on the operating table while Jeremy plays on a radio the background Nip/Tuck style.....as the afterbirth splatters on the floor.
groetjes,
Mirella
