Yeah. He was definitely in my top 10. Big fan. He and Busiek recently put out the second Arrowsmith series too. Goddammit

Just finished this. Batman behaved very out of character but it was fun I guess.VinylGuy wrote:Reading the new Flashpoint Beyond special.

I leafed through this one seemed like a Thing solo book. Alex Ross put out a cool graphic novel recently called Fantastic Four: Full Circle. You might wanna check it out.wease wrote:I did pick up the first issue of the new Fantastic Four series today, but I’ve not read it yet.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
I didn’t realize that Silvestri Batman book was out. Gotta look for it.
I actually really dug FF 1. I’m gonna stick with it.
I already got the Alex Ross book. Loved the art, story was just ok.

i think i was first introduced to alex ross via kingdom come. i had the TPB and it showed some behind the scenes of how he used models based on his family for lighting and shadows. what he does with a paint brush is inhuman

I actually got his first work, the Terminator miniseries and thought it was cool but it was Marvels that just fucking blew me away. Still does. Busiek and Ross were just firing on all cylinders and did everything right on that one.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
I'm not nearly as into comics as you guys, but I just read Black Panther vs. Deadpool and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
So did/do you guys ever get books based on the artist or the writer? My collecting revolved around the artist for a long time. And there are still artists I follow no matter what but I don’t follow writers nearly as much.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
Yeah off the top of my head I usually checkout whatever Jonathan Hickman or Scott Synder puts out. No guarantee I'll like what they do but there is a real good chance I will. Geoff John's comics are more often than not worth checking out because he tends to set the direction for the entire line. Results do vary though. There are a lot of writers who I know their strengths and weaknesses so based on the premise of the book I'll have a pretty good idea if its worth my time. For instance Tom Taylor's in continuity DC stuff is normally uneven to bad but his Elseworld's type stuff are absolute bangers. Tom King starts out with amazing and thought provoking premises that will normally devolve into decompressed, deconstructed, depressing, character assassinating garbage that I always regret reading but I do anyways lol.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
i used to do it more...like back in the day, i was a huge fan of John Byrne´s Superman, Chris Claremont´s x men or whataver Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle were doin in Batman.
These days ...its more of a struggle. Tom King is weird enough to grab me but he loses me easily too. Synder can be compelling yeah.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
I’ll buy anything Ed Brubaker puts out, writer-wise. Used to like Greg? Rucka quite a bit, too.
Artists I still follow no matter what:
John Byrne
John Romita, Jr
Walt Simonson
Frank Miller
Jim Lee
Mark Silvestri
Matt Wagner
Carlos Pacheco
Paul Smith
Jim Cheung
Olivier Coipel
Apparently David Mazzuchelli has been doing phenomenal work but I don’t have any of it. I do want to search it out and see what it’s all about.
Other than Brubaker, I’m nowhere near as faithful to writers. Maybe Gaiman but that’s just because he really hasn’t written that many comics comparatively.

Reading the whole Punchline arc and it’s very good. I like her a lot ; I love what they are doing with her fandom too

Bought this after watching a youtube video on it. Very cool. Alex Ross doing Jack Kirby at his most psychadelic.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
Bought this big boy (13.75 x 2 x 19.25 inches) yesterday. Poorly packaged so it's quite damaged, but the art is amazing. Jim Lee really was on top of the game back then.

I’ve got the two Walt Simonson Thor editions. Those things are printed at the actual size the art was originally done at.
I don’t have the Jim Lee edition, but I can only imagine how beautiful that book is.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
I’ve got the smaller edition of the Born Again Daredevil storyline. I can’t remember what they call those. But it actuall has the vellum overlays where color holds were used. And Mazzucchelli used them a LOT!BurtReynolds wrote:Yeah its cool to see the cut outs and white-out and stuff like that.wease wrote:I’ve got the two Walt Simonson Thor editions. The art of Batman/Spawn #1 was really great but the story didn't hold my interest at all I bailed halfway through.
