Re: Yellow Moon
Listen #4 did it for me. Listens 1-3 I never got past the similarity to Low Light at the beginning. Listen #4 the rest of the song came into focus and I found a lot of cool stuff going on.Got Some wrote:Birds in Hell wrote:Jesus, this song is boring.
But, then again, I don't much care for Low Light either. I mean, it's okay, and let's face it, it's immeasurably better than this, but still.
I thought it was boring at first. Certainly grows on you

Re: Yellow Moon
This is the one song on the record I can't really remember when I'm not listening. It's just kind of there.
And Low Light is miles better, ftr.

The bridge to this song is definitely the best part. It's a decent song, but I'm not liking it as much as I hoped I would.
The first few seconds of the song sound like Lowlight, but that's about it. Lowlight blows it away.

Turning into a favorite of mine. Reminds me of Release.

I've never liked Low Light. It reminds me of a boring Dave Matthews song..its like 1 of 3 PJ songs I don't like. I've never understood the love for it. I think Yellow Moon might be a top tener for me.scrub12 wrote:The bridge to this song is definitely the best part. It's a decent song, but I'm not liking it as much as I hoped I would.

Re: Yellow Moon
This song is so lovely. It just flows so nicely and doesn't do anything unnecessary like many of the other tracks. I love the soft and thick distorted guitars. The production style reminds me of how they layered the full band tracks on the Into The Wild ST. Again, why this isn't the album closer is beyond me.

While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

Very REM around Automatic for the People - and that is a quality sign! Very good track and as someone suggesting, this could have (should have) been the closer of the album.
Love the piano too!

This song is slowly crawling to my top spot. It's not only that I like the song a lot but also that I like how much it sounds how I want Pearl Jam to sound. It's the only song where I don't notice that modern-Ed is singing. This also pisses me off a little because it shows how much of his newer vocals are deliberately sung the way they are and not because he is necessarily hiding vocal flaws with his vocal technique.

Yup. There are certainly far fewer of those vocal ticks here than there were on Backspacer, so hopefully more sessions with whatever vocal coach he's now using will mean better technique next time.

Re: Yellow Moon
I somehow think some of his vocal ticks are the result of a vocal trainer. You need to inject an H into every word you sing so you can hold the note easier! Looooo-Hoooow Liiiiiight! Nothingmaaa-Haaaaan! But I have no idea about singing so I'm talking out of my ass.

Out of the gates, I really enjoyed it. But, its missing something. There's just a flatness to it.
Agree with Strat - a Stone solo on this would've helped.

I need to confess: I once did a google search trying to find a page about vocal techniques where something like this is mentioned. I had no luck.evenslow wrote:Who kno-hows Mi-hike. I already told you people, we need a McParadigm Has a Place for His Cartoons thread to keep him occupied, but no one listened.EJ wrote:Hittin the bottle early today, huh?McParadigm wrote:EJ wrote:Out of the gates, I really enjoyed it. But, its missing something.
