I'm gonna see Babylon tonight, but really only because there isn't anything else to see at the moment. I wish EO was playing around here. I was in a city last week that had it, but I didn't get to it, sadly. That's basically the only movie I still want to see before nailing down my Golden Jorges

It's a Polish donkey movie.

oh, and Women Talking is one I want to see, also. But I don't have high hopes for that one. It looks intriguing enough, but I'm a little bummed by the pandemic-era make-a-play-a-movie-but-really-it-just-feels-like-a-bottle-episode type of thing

Everyone forgot about that one. I saw the trailer and looked so average. I do feel sorry for the leads who thought they were going to crush it at the awards season..

The book is super rad. Sarah Polley is super rad. I have extremely high hopes for Women Talking.

Jagten (The Hunt)

Another great movie. Possibly my top 2012 movie, will see how the rewatch goes.

Final rewatch of a 2012-movie for now. Only four 2012-movies left, have not seen any of them before.

I watched the Volcano documentary on Netflix today about the White Island eruption in new zealand in 2019. It was horrifying. What they went through, i can’t imagine the pain of that steam. Literal hell

Ok, so, Babylon. Here's the review you've all been waiting on. The highs are pretty high, and the lows are honestly only middling. But it doesn't add up to much overall, for me. It doesn't quite hold together. And I refuse to give a three hour movie the benefit of the doubt. If you're taking three hours you should use three hours to do something complex or something. And the ending is
Spoiler: show
a really weird choice. Remember the movie The Northman? It was basically a re-construction of what the true story of Hamlet could have been. Babylon was basically a re-construction of what the true story of Singing in the Rain could have been. So it was really weird to me that they chose to have the guy watch Singing in the Rain at the end of the movie. If Alexander Skarsgard watched a production of Hamlet at the end of The Northman, that'd be something. And then the self-important montage of the future of cinema was a bit much.
There is also scatological humor, but it isn't actually funny. It just happens. It's much funnier this year in Jackass Forever and Triangle of Sadness.

Babylon doesn't land for me, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone who got more out of it than I did. Maybe I missed the unifying element that ties it all together
