i do not have even the tiniest shred of desire to see another avatar movie, and despite multiple Satellite TV channels replaying Avatar 1 (with companion commercials for 2 during breaks) these past couple weeks I'm not going to re-watch it, and Jim C's investment in so many Avatar movies is baffling... but I'm not surprised this one is doing well, because people are, you know, very very stupid

Jorge, I don't think anyone was ever arguing that Avatar 2 wasn't going to make an assload of money. It's a big budget James Cameron blockbuster.

Obviously it's just anecdotal, but I really don't remember people ever talking about Avatar before the sequels were announced. I don't mean that as a knock against Cameron or people who like the movies, it's just interesting for such a huge movie.

For example, this is the sole Avatar thread on the board. The Eternals generated more conversation here than either Avatar movie.

Sure they were. I'm not saying everyone was, or that you were, but a lot of people were predicting this would bomb. I think I was, too.

Is that surprising? Avatar is a franchise that has been dormant for 13 years, Eternals is part of an ongoing franchise (the MCU). And anyway, here's the original Avatar thread from the previous board, it's much longer than our Eternals thread : http://archive.theskyiscrape.com/viewto ... 10&t=46192

i really didnt know what to expect box office wise with this movie, but i kinda felt it was going to be a hit because of the Disney parks. I dont think anyone really cares bout the first movie, and they made a very wise choice making those rides for anyone to kinda remember those characters.

I might go see this one tomorrow, still havent decided yet.

I never thought it would bomb. I just don’t care enough about it to care. I disliked the first movie and have absolutely no desire to see this one. Or future installments.

Good point about the Disney parks. I didn't expect it to bomb, even though like Jorge said the first one was a long time ago.
