I feel his intentions are good throughout the show, and so he will continue with that trajectory after the credits. "White Knighting" isn't at all necessarily a dark path.
But look what his good intentions got him in the end. €50k down the shitter. That will certainly inform future intentions.

This is how a selfish man would view it. But as a White Knight, he felt that even though he didn't directly benefit on the surface, he helped out a lady in need, making him feel quite good about himself.

Not if he believes his dad is actually trying harder to be a good man. It seems to me he just might

It's pretty selfish no matte which way you slice it.

Even if he does think his dad wants to change, he's still prioritizing his father's wants over his mother's. And he's doing so explicitly because of another woman with whom he's fucking. I don't think there's any way Albie is prioritizing his mother's wants/needs/thoughts/desires over his own.

Do you think he would have gone to bat for his Dad if not for the 50k?

giving the money in of itself is an act of good faith, karmic payment, thus further convincing him his dad is willing to change

But we are given clues that the dad actually does want to be a better person throughout the season. Like during that walk on the beach you could really get a sense of his longing. He clearly struggles with sexual addiction and it is hard for him To change but he is trying. And how do we know that the mother wouldn’t also benefit from them getting back together? It isn’t necessarily all about helping his dad. We really do not know much about the mother. Surely she is flawed also.

Given the one scene we have where we hear the mother, I think we can absolutely assume she's better off without him.

She definitely got cheated on one too many times. And she was angry. That is pretty much all we know

His Dad is a serial cheater. I'm sure he does actually feel regretful and I'm sure he felt that way the previous times, too. That doesn't mean he's not going to get bored again eventually and do it again.

And I wouldn’t say he is necessarily naïve, but definitely an optimist.

Good point. But maybe his son believes he might actually change this time. I believe he will. I believe in redemption.

If that's the case, why doesn't he go to bat for his dad before there's the other stuff on the line?

Putting other stuff on the line actually tests his character. He’s feeling him out
