My mind was blown circa 1998 when a place called Pizza Man opened not far from my suburban KC home that served "Chicago style pizza," and it was all thin crust.

Talked to the owner (we were there every Monday after rehearsal). Dude is from Chicago and fucking hates that the world thinks Chicago style is deep dish.
