Some of the better lines on the record in there.

Shame about the music.

The 'in the verse we curse ourselves' lyric sums up the contrasting approach between light and darkness in so many of these songs

Good spot.

I don't like the lyrics in chorus much either, I don't really know if this makes sense but i don't like the big over arching statement about the world thing, lots of we's and our's and I don't think its a very sharp observation to begin with. Also it sounds more like a statement in a conversation than lyrical... It kinda reminds me of the verses in In Hiding like that, and I've never liked those either.

Not trying to shit on it, just attempting to articulate why I don't like it. I don't know that its working though.

I agree, the lyrics in the chorus seem too mundane and cliched to be anthemic.

Having said that, you could level the same criticisms at much of Riot Act. The lyrics of "You Are" were probably the most cliched junk Ed had ever written at the time.

never apologize for your opinion when you're backing it up.

And I'm gonna go ahead and defend those lyrics. They're not overly complex, but the idea behind them is very important, and is one of the core themes running through the record--that while the world may be awful, it is fixable, provided we stop making excuses for why we aren't going ahead and starting that project.

it's a very optimistic record in that regard, which is why so many of the choruses in darker/angrier/judgmental songs go to lighter places.

I can buy that.

There's a definite light / seriousness clash going on, even symbolised by that cartoon yellow lightning bolt invading the film.

Aren't they matts lyrics? At least half of them are I think. They're not good, but I like the melody and vocals.

I'm now imagining Eddie as some kinda hippie superhero named "The Fixer" , saving the world one chorus at a time. He gets his power from the moon, much like the oceans waves.

Yeah I think you're right, Matt's lyrics. I remember people bitching about LBC's lyrics as well, but now the whole album is the Holy Grail and none of the fans have any issues with it.

I think for a lot of people its the last album with some truly 5 star songs on. I think it is for me, depending on how I feel about pendulum and SbM in a while.

It also has a certain sound I find easier to accept from pearl jam than the subsequent albums.

I am mine, lbc and thumbing my way bore the shit out of me though. And green disease and save you are meh.
