Re: The Running Thread
So I don't normally run with music these days, but I took Young Team on a tempo run this morning and am now considering an all Mogwai training block. I was fucking floating thru my paces and the music just melted into the scenery.

Nice. I’ve thought about trying music recently. I’m concerned it would cause me to start out too fast though and I’d fall apart later.

Re: The Running Thread
What's the earliest any of you have started on a run? I have a 7 miler on the schedule tomorrow but realistically the best time to do it is 4:30am.

Re: The Running Thread
Well I got it done. 7.22 miles starting promptly at 4:30am.
I was really thinking that mogwai would be an awesome soundtrack for this experience, but better heads prevailed and I ran no headphones to be as alert as possible. My neighborhood can be kind of sketch.
Ran a couple of miles on the quiet bayou greenway, but most of the miles were in well lit major arteries on my side of town.
Finishing a run before the sun rises is a thrill. I do recommend.

Re: The Running Thread
My final training run before I ran the NYC marathon was a sunrise run. Ended just as the sun cracked the horizon. It was pretty emotional and very special.
Anyway, today I did the same 6.1 course that I did on Tuesday. This time I did the whole thing at a 9:20 pace. Felt great.

my position changed in 2005, the year in which i, overcome with a digestive crisis mid-run, mid-cemetery, took a shit behind a headstone.washing machine wrote:Where does everybody land on running in a cemetery?

I’ve run on 4 of the first 6 days of the year so far and I am very sore.

I don't know if it's exactly analogous, but I find that the right song (usually Soundgarden) at the right time can really turn a mediocre bike ride into a good one.
I usually start out with a podcast and then switch to music when I start to tire.

I’m hoping to try next week on the dreadmill, but I’ll start with music instead.JuanHamm wrote:lennytheweedwhacker wrote:Nice. I’ve thought about trying music recently. I’m concerned it would cause me to start out too fast though and I’d fall apart later.

Aiming for a longer, slow run today. Ideally 4.5-5 miles.

Re: The Running Thread
Great job guys. I’ve completely lost the ability to run. January of last year was baller for real. I guess I peaked in April because it’s been downhill since.
