Going to the Mall

Post by JuanHamm »

When I was a teen my friends and I used to go to the mall all the time, but online shopping and more stores opening locally put a stop to that.

This Christmas I was struggling with a few gifts so I went back to the mall for the first time in probably 15 years and it was pretty busy.

Is that a post-covid thing? Did some people never stop going? Is it a rejection of the impersonal nature of online shopping?

Discuss.

I went with friends when I was a teen as well. If I ever go now, it's usually for a Christmas gift that I've already shopped around and can pick it up there quickly.

I cannot be there for more than 10-15 minutes because it gets my anxiety up, and I start to get easily annoyed at being around people.

At least you’d go out smelling like a potpourri of apple pumpkin, clean cotton, and soft wool & amber.

Even the nicest malls are a little scuzzy.

I remember when they opened the first huge mall near my town, it was this big huge deal. My mom took me like ¨this is the big get out¨ almost like it was a vacation.

That place is still open and its full of people mostly. I still go from time to time, and i also go to one in the center of Bs As. I would say that mosts mall here are still crowded.

I do remember going to one in Austin Texas were it seemed everyone was fucking dead or something. It had this eerie feeling to it, which i loved.

Also i loved that documentary about that dying mall in the US, anyone saw it?

I miss the smell of malls. That mixture of pretzels, cinnamon rolls, and candles is very nostalgic.

The ones I've been to recently have the stench of death about them, but they still get busy around the holidays.

I like malls. The outdoors ones also, do those count? Like The Grove in LA?

They have these in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois now. Makes no sense.

It's worse than a strip mall in the winters.
