I actually think Pizzolatto not being the writer gives this a chance of being good, but I also kind of think it makes it not True Detective. It feels a bit like I'm being tricked.
Don't forget Cary Joji Fukunaga. He had as much to do with Season 1 being great as anyone.
Truth.

In fact, I would argue that Fukunaga is ther only thing that elevated S1 over S2.

So many great artists are shitty people. It's endemic in the US culture and it's systemic. I've loved seeing this addressed out loud and in public so fervently over the past few years. I hope it continues. It's way past time for this shit to go away forever.

Having said that, I didn't read the article because of the paywall. And this is the first I've heard of any allegations so I need to do some research on this specific case. But the headlines gives a broad overview of accusations. If true, it fucking sucks. I'm getting really tired of this shit.

Season 2 was a beautifully shot fever dream of either a bad script (Vince Vaughn) or bad performance (Taylor Kitsch). I thought Farrell and McAdams put in good performances, but it was the Phantom Menace of stories.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

So this is coming back with Jodie Foster. Set in Alaska. Not sure how this flew under my radar but looking forward to it!

Yeah, Mahershala Ali gave easily the best performance of the year.

Both are interesting. S2 has some cool stuff and really solid performances. S3 is fucking brilliant.

Since everyone goes on about how brilliant season 1 is despite the fact that it sucks, maybe I should give season 2 a try, since everyone hates that one.
