Right, so what's different about mid? I can tell you what bothers me about it. It's a tossed-off, one-syllable, three-letter tool for quick and easy dismissal, and it's especially ubiquitous right now. Have you noticed how 90% of the time it's used it's not accompanied by any type of elaboration? It's a conversation killer. It doesn't tell you anything about why the utterer found the work lacking, or even if they engaged with it at all. It says nothing, in the most obnoxious way. So yeah it's annoying especially if you value conversations about the art

I guess, as usual, it's not the word itself but the way it's used. "Mid" is more or less a synonym for "mediocre," but you don't really see many people using "mediocre" as a one-word review

Oh no, not the one-syllable dismissal!

Do you ask people who use the word "mid" where you can find their full review?

How do you know? Maybe their full review is buried somewhere on a Pearl Jam message board.Jorge wrote:That's exactly what I'm saying though, that is their full review

Probably says a lot about my personal media consumption but today is the first time I've ever heard the term 'mid' used in any way that wasn't either related to cricket or meant specifically the mid-point of something.

Jorge knows more about all of the things he hates than anyone else on the board.

I'm pretty sure that bringing up Key & Peele skits could be used as evidence that one is, in fact, old and out of touch

"Old and out of touch" is preferable, considering with whom the disconnect is occurring in this scenario
