I have no idea what the lyrics are about and I don't care. Something about a genius's son, and Beethoven. Whatever.
:nice:

Definitely the strongest song on the album (by some margin) for me.

The actual words themselves are of neglible importance to me, it's the pure sound of the vocal (the musical effect of the choices of vowels, consonants and syllables, the phrasing, etc.) that really matters.
I'm with you on this. When lyrics really bother me they either have to be really really bad or the song itself must not be very good that I'm focusing on the lyrics instead.

Huh. I guess I hadn't considered that they might be experiential in nature....but, I imagine that being a volunteer amputee probably does help you to appreciate them.

yeah lyrics are certainly secondary for me to music/melody.

this whole song is awesome. it sounds like ed is more focused on candance and rhythm in the verses. the chorus might be the best part of the album. the bridge was probably a song they never finished.

Lyrics are NOT secondary. That statement simply bothers me. Lyrics are so important to a good song. One can certainly enjoy music without lyrics and I suppose non-lyrical music can move someone, but I feel one can't have a real connection to a song without lyrics. It's the bridge to understanding a point of view, generally the writer's.

Somebody better dig up Mozart and have him write some lyrics or no one's ever gonna like his shit.

I think it was in the Mark Richards interview. He said that it wasn't about himself, because he didn't know his father so has nothing against him.

Guys, if you're going to write a song with lyrics, they're a crucial part of the song and can justifiably be critiqued. If a song fails, the lyrics are just as open to critique as everything else, and lyrics may well be the reason a song ultimately succeeds or fails. The idea that lyrics are an optional extra I find arrogant and naive. Music designed to be instrumental is obviously exempt and shouldn't be brought into the argument.

There's some very interesting delivery here, rhythmically and tonally. It's a similar thing displayed on MYM, and I think if they do more "loud" songs, this is the right way to do it with his older voice.

This doesn't make sense. You're saying that you can't have a proper connection with any song without lyrics? I dunno man, that's silly. If a song is designed to be instrumental, you can't critique lyrics; it doesn't preclude emotional attachment. But if a song includes lyrics, those lyrics are fair game for critique as much as the guitar work.

I'd be happy enough to jump on board and ride Supersonic if it weren't for the terrible lyrics, but I don't have that strong a reaction to most songs. These lyrics are just depressingly bad.

I understand this (pop fans certainly back this), but honestly, I find this very frustrating because it's not how I hear a song. To each his or her own though.

i havent even looked at the lyrics to this song to be honest with you. i need to wrap my brain/soul around the entire song before i read the lyrics and try to make sense of them.
