Ahh yes the goosebump effect, thats been kinda missing for me in the past two albums..sans UK from Backspacer...Early PJ albums used to give me goosebumps all the time and sometimes still do if i havent listened to a certain song in awhile...This album has that, Getaway, MFS, Pendallum and YM all tickle my fancy...Also this album has rewind appeal, meaning there are certain parts to songs that i rewind and listened to again cuz its sounds so phuking good...i.e getaway after the solo and MFS after the bridge

Stip, I tried to reply to your question about when I'll do the drum review. But the thread is fucking locked, even to me, which I find quite rude. Most concert venues give me special access through the back door. Why can't RM?

All the way through, pretty much.

Speaking of drums, I'd put the drums on this one 4th as of now behind No Code, Vs. and Yield...probably even w Yield right now.

so after listening to it front to back, this is at least 5 steps in the right direction after backspacer. there's alot of different styles in this, but they sequence it pretty well so nothing feels too out of place. its not a 'return to form', but its certainly the high point in the place they are now. i think this might be their strongest album since yield. we'll see if time holds up. i also think pretty much everything on here has potential to be awesome live.

This album's OK, I guess. Like all of the post-Yield records, I'll never listen to the whole thing.

It's an improvement on Backspacer in that it has one legitimately excellent song that I keep wanting to return to (My Father's Son) and a handful of really good ones that I'll probably feel like listening to occasionally and will never mind hearing in a live set (Getaway, Mind Your Manners, Pendulum).

It's very poorly sequenced however and the missteps are arguably worse here than those on any of their previous records. It certainly doesn't inspire any great confidence in the future of the band.

We're relaxed here in Newie. It took me 5 days to post this to Stip (although that's down to other chaos).

I agree it is a step up from Backspacer and prob even ST....You have to take into account that this is their 10th Studio album...Not many bands have 5 good records let alone 8-10....and now there is only one direction for this band to go in...further into the darkness  ...............sorry i like dark moody songs, albums....

I have a similar feeling. This one isn't full of instant pleasers and will take more time to digest. That has always boded well for Pearl Jam albums. I think this one is going to have staying power and I am so thankful that Pearl Jam took chances on Lightning Bolt instead of making things too easy.

For example, when I saw 3 slow songs ended the record I was bummed, but after listening, I wouldn't change that.

We need to sit down with the last few records and really reevaluate them to see to what extent they are inspired by Ed's newfound love of high rise legal teams.

This album suggests to me that at least they won't go Backspacerwards. If anything the next album should be even more inventive.

I am so glad that we can share this! At work I tell my coworkers about Pearl Jam, but I guess talking to a random plant or tree would have more effect. 'Internet' is great to find people who understand. And my friends do. This morning I had so much fun just from status updates from friends going to work. One played it very loud and another was so distracted by it that she missed her exit.

groetjes,
Mirella :)
