Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon was very good. Nice to see Ana Lily Amirpour bounce back after floundering for a while

I agree with everything up to the 'bounce back'. I'd be happy if she had made more movies over the last few years, but The Bad Batch is my favorite of hersJorge wrote:Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon was very good. Nice to see Ana Lily Amirpour bounce back after floundering for a while

I didn't see it, but it was 6 years ago and its failure led to a period where she directed a bunch of TV and I thought maybe she would be stuck there.

OK, I see what you mean. Maybe strap in for another few years of that, then. Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon didn't make much of an impact, sadly.

Remember my colleagues loving this back in 2013. Thought it was decent when I saw it. First rewatch now.

About Time
Another rewatch, although after this one I only have 12 rewatches left from 2013, and 23 I’ve never seen.
Wasn’t fond of this when I first saw it. All the time travelling, but now I see that it has a comedic charm to it, and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

I liked it a lot. That was the one I got a lot of flak for for posting that it was a movie that was very happy and excited to be a movie, so it wasnt going to waste a second of its opportunity to finally be a movieVinylGuy wrote:i dont remember this one coming out. Men and The Green Knight would make a good one-two punch screening

Men was the movie I was most surprised I liked of 2022. I was very apprehensive about watching it, but I liked Garland's first two films so I thought I would give it a shot.tree_ wrote:oh wow.. this movie has a lot of explaining to do.. jesus fucking christ ... *searches youtube for video essays*tree_ wrote:a little over halfway through and riveted. Re: What movies are you watching?
I think expecting classic genre entertainment from this movie is a fool's errand. It's an art-house, open-for-interpretation kind of horror. I will watch it again someday and probably feel differently about it than I did this time. It's difficult to rate.. very well made, very crazy. 8.6/10 cosmic re-births.50 Million Feet of Earth... wrote:Men was the movie I was most surprised I liked of 2022. Re: What movies are you watching?
This movie does have horror genre tropes. And I can see why an audience would be left frustrated. But I feel that was intentional. It’s a really good movie and I would recommend it to anybody looking to be challenged. Or who is just tired of the same old. Mostly I am just glad that movies like this are being made. It is way better than paths of glory. I think even Stanley Kubrick would agree. 8.9 out of 10 beautiful nightmares
