Jury Duty
So about 6 weeks ago I filled out a questionaire for jury duty
A month ago I get notified I have been selected for Federal Jury Duty
anyone else ever go through this?
there were 45 of us in a basic lecture hall were we saw a video of Sara Day O'Connor giving an informercial (as well as some other higher ups but not SC higher up) about what it means to be selected for a jury.
I post i am doing my civic duty at the Federal Courthouse in pgh
afterwards our names and juror numbers are called and we go to the judges chambers where we are given a list of anyone who is involved in the case as well as having the defendants and the plaintiffs look at us to make sure no one knows them prior. we are also asked not to take pictures or video or discuss what we are doing on social media
I quickly delete my post that i am doing my civic duty @ the Federal Courthouse in pgh
we are asked to stand and give our juror number and name if we answer yes to any of the questions we are asked.
they call up 14 people at random and they get to sit in the jury box. lucky dogs, the benches arent too comfy. slowly each one is interviewed by the court, lawyers and staff. some it lasts 5 minutes others it lasts 15 minutes
after the 6th one we go on lunch recess and head to the cafeteria. there was literally one guy working the lunch stand and 45 hungry mf'ers just walked in. people were asses about it like he chose to have his coworkers not show up
go back after recess and the go over the last 8
after the last 8 the court administrator notices 2 new faces in the court room (i saw them come in and thought they were just there to watch the proceedings)
they then interview 4 more jurors
the court administrator asks to speak to the lady (husband went to the restroom) and they were asked to leave. apparently you cannot watch a jury selection like you can a trial
the administrator then removes 4 jurors and adds the others the interviewed last
from there the lawyers went back and forth deciding on whom they wanted to keep
in the end out of 14 people, whittled down to 10, they kept 8
i have to call tomorrow afternoon to see if i have to go back as i am basically on call

Re: Jury Duty
I haven't been called for jury duty since I made that thread six years ago, so I am sure digging it up now will push me to the top of the list. I established permanent residence in a new state more than a year ago, so I'm shocked they haven't called me.

Re: Jury Duty
I mean you should also believe in it but it's really the saying that matters.

Your posting history should easily disqualify you.tragabigzanda wrote:On call for a federal trial for the entire month of March. Courthouse is 90 minutes away. I’m supposed to call every Thursday and they’ll tell me when to come. Couldn’t get excused due to childcare responsibilities.

Sorry you couldn’t get out of it and be shamed by epilogue for not fulfilling your civic duty.
