Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

They’re both great, but fairly different in execution. The first one is an incredibly tense, smart film.
Blunt does the best work to date, and there’s a…structural thing…that happens…that is very unconventional for a mass marketed movie that is so great.

The second one is right down the middle in terms of its mechanics: nothing particularly challenging or novel in the way the story is told. But it’s a great, dark continuation of the first story and I’m glad it exists.

Right on.

I'll have to check out both soon. Feels like good timing, too.

Just got out of 80 for Brady. Goddamn I hate Tom Brady and the Patriots. I think we were the youngest people there. Those old people clapped all through it and I’ve never heard such applause at the end of a movie in my life. Those old folks had one helluva good time, that’s for sure.

Amazing. Out of this world. Cant believe Chazelle actually did this movie with such a huge budget. I dont think his career will recover from this, but goddamn what a fucking great, excessive movie.

Margot Robbie is a star and i enjoyed Tobey Maguire scene so much.

It kind of tapered off slightly for me towards the end, but I really loved that final scene.

yeah the first half is way better but the Maguire scene and that Jean Smart moment were so fucking good. I did love the montage with all the scenes of different movies and moments, but it seemed a bit much yeah.

Again, the movie is excessive but at the same time its so well crafted i was in love from the first minute.

Im curious about how Chazelle is going to recover from this. I recently did a podcast were we talked about Cimino and Heaven´s Gate, and it seems this could be another of those stories.

But outside this little island full of arty pantsy people the movie bombed big time. Chazzelle could be finished. The marketing of this movie was hilariously bad.
