Top 10 (Non Pearl-Jam)

Post by Brainof23 »

A few years back I was on a Pearl Jam road trip. I think it was Washington to MSG for two and then some dessert in Hartford. To pass the time in the car, my friends and I created Top 25 playlists to share with each other. The only rule was that we couldn't include Pearl Jam.

Today, I was just lurking around like always and got into the Top 10 PJ song thread on the main board. I stopped being lazy, recreated my account (finally) and banged out a list. I thought it might be fun to get one started that didn't have PJ. If anyone creates a list and I don't have their #1 in my library I will get it on iTunes. Cool way to find cool tunes. I can't wait to see the lists.

1. Magic Power by Triumph
2. Entre Nous by Rush
3. Shooting Star by Bad Company
4. If I Can Dream by Elvis Presley
5. Three Pistols by The Tragically Hip
6. In a Darkened Room by Skid Row
7. Absolutely Still by Better Than Ezra
8. Let's Pretend by Life of Agony
9. Suburbia by Matthew Good Band
10. Superman's Dead by Our Lady Peace

I am from Buffalo, NY. Very close to Canada and I am a huge fan of Canadian rock and roll. Did that turn out obvious?

EDIT: 5 songs by Canadian bands and a sixth with a Canadian singer. I guess it was obvious

EDIT 2: If the list was Top 10 Pieces of Meat (Non PJ) none meat would be Canadian. Does anyone know why all their meat tastes like sausage?

I don't think I'd have any Pearl Jam in my top ten songs.

This is hard. It would be easier to just post top 10 bands. But picking songs is tough. This is not in any order...

1. Daedalus - Thrice
2. Purple Rain - Prince
3. Anna Begins - Counting Crows
4. Run In The Front - Dear and the Headlights
5. Kicking and Screaming - Funeral for a Friend
6. Microchip - Penfold
7. Little Wing - Jimi or SRV
8. Time to Move On - Tom Petty
9. A Blank Page Empire - Further Seems Forever
10. Please Come Home - Dustin Kensrue

Queens Of The Stone Age | A Song For The Dead
Dinosaur Jr | Turnip Farm
Elliott Smith | Tomorrow Tomorrow
Soundgarden | Head Down
The Beatles | I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Beck | Nobody's Fault But My Own
Led Zeppelin | When The Levee Breaks
Radiohead | The National Anthem
Sleater-Kinney | What's Mine Is Yours
Iron & Wine | The Trapeze Swinger

I think.

Hmmm, straight off the top of my head...

The Beatles- A Day In The Life
The Who- Wont Get Fooled Again
Radiohead- Lucky
Soundgarden- The Day I Tried To Live
CCR- Heard It Through The Grapevine
Talking Heads- Wild Wild Life
Smashing Pumpkins- Disarm
Pink Floyd- Fearless
Led Zeppelin- When The Levee Breaks
Radiohead- 2+2=5

I know there's some outrageous omission here but I dont feel like thinking.

On a plane with horrible super bowl feed. I'll give this a shot

1. Sing It Again - Beck
2. I Will Sing You Songs - My Morning Jacket
3. Nude - Radiohead
4. When Day Chokes The Night - Do Make Say Think
5. Kitchenware & Candybars- STP
6. Buena Vista - Gomez
7. Brombie - Caspian
8. Harnessed In Slums - Archers of Loaf
9. Soup - Blind Melon
10. Something I Can Never Have -NIN

This is sort of impossible but a good recommendations thread at the least

There's no way I could ever do this. I have a hard time enough ranking or tiering albums.

This would be impossible for me to do.there are just way too many songs that I love. I like the Beck - Nobody's Fault But My Own mention. I love that song.

I think the thing is with this, it's absolutely too epic a task for any one man, so you just need to go "Fuck It" and give out a list of ten songs, right here, right now (but not necessarily by Jesus Jones of course...)...

So for right now, saying "Fuck It", these will stand for me:

01. Stone Roses - Fools Gold
02. Paul Kelly - How to Make Gravy
03. Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I - V)
04. Bob - Like A Rolling Stone
05. The Replacements - Unsatisfied
06. Isaac Hayes - Shaft
07. Bruce - Lost in the Flood
08. Tom Waits - Tom Traubert's Blues
09. SRV - Voodoo Chile
10. The Triffids - Wide Open Road

Yeah. That's my 10.
