It's cool but nothing that I'd call exceptional. I like it well enough but not sure how much replay value it has.
I don't think this is a good YLT album to start with, so Joe I hope you liked it enough to seek out some of their other albums.
For contrast, I'd probably recommend I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One, I'm Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat your Ass, or Fade.

I definitely want to listen to more of their stuff, yes. I've been meaning to for ages and just kept putting it off for no reason I can explain. Thought this was a great opportunity to just jump in! And I do like it. Just wasn't blown away. I'll definitely check out the other ones you recommended.

I feel ya. It's a giant discography.
Don't get me wrong, I think this new album is perfect, but more in a payoff sort of way after a string of longer albums with less immediate songs.

LV was really ahead of the game when he predicted that albums would (and should) get shorter. Dude was a visionary.washing machine wrote:I feel ya. It's a giant discography.

Re: Albums of 2023
Saw her on Friday night here in Portland. Knew she had a new album coming out, but didn't know until Thursday that it came out the day of the show. Made me think she might play too much from it and not play enough from her first two albums. She played the whole fucking thing. Just might be me, but I don't like when artists play stuff you haven't had a chance to get familiar with. Her performance was great (her voice is amazing) but it was only the last 4 of the 16 songs I was really able to get into.LetMeSleep wrote:

I definitely feel like this new album sounds more polished than her two previous ones. I'm not mad about it. It's just an observation.50 Million Feet of Earth... wrote:Saw her on Friday night here in Portland. It looked that way for a while but there's also been a recent trend of very long albums. I think on average it may be stabilizing back to the 40 minute formatepilogue wrote:LV was really ahead of the game when he predicted that albums would (and should) get shorter. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. There's been a lot of high-profile longer albums recently. So the average length might be going back up

I’m a month late to the conversation but I felt pretty positive about the Iggy Pop album. Mike Watt and band have their fingerprints all over this. Almost sounds like a sequel album to Earthling with a different singer. Makes sense given that the core musicians are the same as on that album.
All subsequent releases can be called the Mike Watt Band with [insert rock singer here].

I didnt liked it at all, i found it lazy and obvious. There was some interesting stuff, and i do love the song that Stone is playing on.
