I consider myself a nihilist. But even I'm kinda over the "everything you care about is gone, everyone you love will die a horrible death, nothing means anything" thing this show is doing. If the whole point is we all die terrible deaths and must do terrible things, why keep watching?

Again, I will keep watching.

What if it was that in the face of unimaginable suffering that remembering your humanity means everything?

I mean, sure. If that's where we're going, I'm all in. But listening to the creators talk about the show, I'm just a little concerned that they aren't gonna pull that off. But, again, that's why I'll keep watching. I want them to get me there.

I think maybe the strongest theme is that Tribalism, though so frequently a human tendency in such dire situations, is wrong. It is only when we can see past ourselves and our own personal situations that humanity can be truly good. But I have played the games and I’ve seen the entire story played out. That shouldn’t be a spoiler I don’t think

I think my favorite observation about the show so far has been "it's a love story, but that's not necessarily a good thing."

The compare/contrast of love and the infection is pretty cool.

Exactly what I’m talking about. Love can make people do some fucked up, very self-centered bullshit. It can blind us to the bigger picture

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I’ve played the game so I know there’s ample material here for them to deliver on this theme; I also know the most successful moments in the game were often the most quiet, which is understandably lost somewhat in the transition to event television.

I think this show will deliver. I think Bella Ramsey is knocking it out of the park and don’t understand the criticisms she’s received. But I gather she’s not connecting for some viewers, so maybe that’s why some aren’t feeling the emotional impact.
I think she's doing fine. Could be her weird face that's putting people off though

Again my only real complaint is that the video game was so well done I’m not sure the TV show is doing it any better. Including Joel and Ellie. And so the only real value I’m getting from the show is the extra narrative tidbits that are not in the game, which so far are few and far between

I'm not out there looking for LoU content, but I haven't seen any Bella criticisms. I'm sure they are out there. But I haven't seen any.

I didn’t think any pair on the show could move me like Bill and Frank did, but goddamn if Ellie and Sam didn’t show me I was wrong.

I just figured the monster was just some big bad from the game and they included it because of that. Really, is no less believable than a sentient fungus that infects people and takes over the world.

Has it said anything about whether or not it infects other animals? We’ve not really seen many dogs or cats or anything.

Sam and Henry moved me more than Bill and Frank. That's probably why I'm so upset

Same, but I think what they did with Bill and Frank set up the subtle depth of the Henry and Sam story. Bill's acceptance vs Henry's perseverance and the sacrifices they both made for love have deep echos of modern American culture.
