I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

First ep had a couple of mild chuckles but that’s it. Didn’t expect the twist at the end so I’m hoping it picks up now that the exposition is out of the way.

Somehow this show has flown under my radar for all these years; just finished Season 1 and moved onto Season 2!

Ep 4 was a huge improvement. The tone is still very different from the original two seasons but the new characters were actually given something to do and the old ones were given better things to do.

I think part of the issue with this season is that it's just too depressing to have characters you actually like still stuck at a shitty, servile, meaningless job in their 40s. Ken Marino's "I need to know that this is just a really shitty prologue to my real story" speech from season two sums it up pretty well. Season two ended on a fairly optimistic note and season three just throws that all away. It's kind of the Alien 3 of sitcoms. To be fair I'm not sure how they could get around this problem given the nature of the show, besides either getting a whole new cast or not doing another season.

But this ep at least was less depressing, and Jennifer Garner felt more like a real character than a distraction from the fact they couldn't get Lizzy Caplan.

So the season as a whole started out rough but picked up with the last three eps, and ended with a shocking twist that most people can probably guess. Hopefully they’ll keep the momentum going into another season.
