Re: The Homelessness Crisis
There's a dude that lives under an overpass by my work. I would like to think that a county/ city social worker checks in from time to time, but I don't know. If he's using anything he must have a bespoke local supplier because he doesn't have many neighbors.BurtReynolds wrote:Thought I saw a dead guy this morning laid out on the sidewalk at the church soup kitchen down the street. But looks like he moved a little when the paramedics showed up. Lots of ODs around here.
It's pretty amazing the amount of damage you can do to a body without it dying.
Kinda concerned with what exactly he is staining the concrete below his sleeping spot with.

Bammer Solves the Housing Crisis
We’re driving this thread way off topic but once the population of the city gets to over 50% renter (and obvs under 50% homeowner) kick up property taxes to pay for things like more homeless hotels.bart wrote:TaxesBammer wrote:Pick a topic (environment, housing, police, taxes, etc.) and I’ll get you an example.bart wrote:Yes, please go onBammer wrote:Ever been to Seattle?bart wrote:Bammer I’m curious, what do you see the other side (dems etc) doing that you feel is comparable to what the governor in the video B posted is doing? Re: Transgender Rights
Maybe they don't like people being homeless.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

But don’t you think there’s a fundamental difference between a policy you don’t like (raising property taxes) and one that targets a group for discrimination based on their sexual orientation, gender, race, etc?

Zip codes are often used as a proxy for race

Re: Transgender Rights
Throw in something like rent control and now the people voting for it don’t have to pay for it. That’s the fast lane to re-election, damn the consequences.bart wrote:Raising property taxes, got it.Bammer wrote:We’re driving this thread way off topic but once the population of the city gets to over 50% renter (and obvs under 50% homeowner) kick up property taxes to pay for things like more homeless hotels.bart wrote:TaxesBammer wrote:Pick a topic (environment, housing, police, taxes, etc.) and I’ll get you an example.bart wrote:Yes, please go onBammer wrote:Ever been to Seattle?bart wrote:Bammer I’m curious, what do you see the other side (dems etc) doing that you feel is comparable to what the governor in the video B posted is doing? Damn, it sounds like a community where most of the people are unable to afford a home ends up with some real problems (tenants not voting in their landlord’s best interest).Bammer wrote:Throw in something like rent control and now the people voting for it don’t have to pay for it. It also sounds like making it more difficult to build housing leads to housing becoming less affordable and contributes to some real problems.

Re: Bammer Solves the Housing Crisis
Since this turned into a legit debate about housing or taxes or whatever, I went ahead and split it off.

Yeah, this is an unending debate here in Chapel Hill, NC.4/5 wrote:It also sounds like making it more difficult to build housing leads to housing becoming less affordable and contributes to some real problems.
You should see how angry all the old white people get over 35 acres that the town bought. The Town wants to combine it with an existing park to make a 30 acre park and use 10 acres of the new land for housing. Oh man, the screaming over the loss of those 10 acres .... oh man!

For the bottom 2/3 of earners, the overwhelming majority of their net worth comes from their primary residence. It makes sense that any perceived threat would be defended against no matter the benefit to the state
