All in, it's better than Gigaton by a hair I think.

I really like Earthling a lot, but I can't agree with this.Coach wrote:All in, it's better than Gigaton by a hair I think.

I don’t foresee myself engaging with this album very much down the road other than “wow it’s been a few of years since I listened to this”

John 8:12
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

I’m not sure I like this album at all.
I’ll put it on tonight and see how long it lasts. I remember hating the sound of it. The drums. We’ll see.

I had a few glasses of Makers Mark and didn’t even think about this album. I’m going to work it in today.Coach wrote:How'd it go?

Try to stay sober and get a listen in before passing out. I might use this as the soundtrack to my gym workout tonight.Teeeeeekay wrote:I had a few glasses of Makers Mark and didn’t even think about this album. I’m going to work it in today.Coach wrote:How'd it go?

Invincible (4.5/5) – Still a great, fun, buoyant song.Coach wrote:Let us know your thoughts after revisiting it.Jaeti wrote:This thread is reminding me I should listen to this again soon. Today, probably.
Power of Right (3.5) – There's a good bit of guitar in here that I'm not a fan of, but I love Ed's delivery throughout. Having gone a while without listening, I think my enjoyment of the vocal overshadowed my ambivalence toward some of the music and I enjoyed it more than I would have a few months ago.
Long Way (3.5) – Perfectly pleasant song to listen to, but based on some live recordings this is one the certainly seems to elevate in that setting. I think I'm kind of acknowledging that with the added half star.
Brother the Cloud (5) – Adore, adore, adore.
Fallout Today (4) – Last summer I was still wondering if this might be a sneaky 5-star song. It probably isn't quite, but it's great.
The Dark (4.5) – Still tremendous.
The Haves (2.5) – I dunno, I just don't hate it.
Good and Evil (3) – I think I've always been lower on this one than a lot of people. I think I enjoyed it more today after the long layoff, but don't think I'd bump it beyond three stars.
Rose of Jericho (3.5) – I sure dig the music here.
Try (4) – Still super fun.
Picture (2.5) – It's there. I would definitely boot this off the album before The Haves.
Mrs. Mills (4) – I think I used to have this as a 3.5. Liked it, but didn't love it the way some others around here seemed to. Again, maybe it's mostly a result of some time away, but when it came on my ears definitely had a little "ooooh" moment.
On My Way (5) – Not five stars in the sense that I'll ever think, "My god, I must listen to On My Way right this second," but for what it is, yeah.

The songs that have moved in a positive direction for me are: Long Way (after hearing live version), On My Way (it's Ed's dad singing...kinda cool and crazy), Power of Right, Mrs. Mills, The Dark.Jaeti wrote:Invincible (4.5/5) – Still a great, fun, buoyant song.Coach wrote:Let us know your thoughts after revisiting it.Jaeti wrote:This thread is reminding me I should listen to this again soon. Album did t even register when I picked something to play. I put on some JEFF The Brotherhood instead. I just started Earthlings.
Staying sober for this opening track was the wrong idea. This song is icky.

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
I’m just going to live tweet this if y’all don’t care.
Power of Right is pretty good. But I would never throw it on a playlist or he’ll I might not ever pick these tracks to randomly to listen to. The production is not enjoyable at all. The guitar sounds, the drums, handclaps. Good song dragged down.
And fuck it, I kind of like the Long Way. Might be the best sounding one on here. It’s nice.
