Yeah can we get someone in the know giving us a rundown of her work?

I've never read Munro, but her name gets bandied about in my department quite a bit by people who work with the contemporary short story, especially people who focus on women and gender. This probably means no American will get a chance for another 5-6 years, but it's cool that someone from America's Hat got honored!

Finally finished Reamde. That book...that damn book. It goes all over the place - literally and figuratively - in it's quest of an ending that reads like Stephen King wrote it. And the deus ex machina at the end with the cat? Ok then.

That said, it was a pretty good read. The chapters were frickin huge, but then a lot of detail went into making the journey move from place to place.

So my stepson is a freshman in high school. He is some kind of math genius and likes science and history also. But he hates English class. This is the first year he is struggling with it, though. He gets bored reading a lot of the time, so I told him the next book they read I'll read it also so we can discuss it. So now I'm reading The Great Gatsby.

That's really cool that you're doing that. You seem like a good parent.

I'm reading Nick Offerman's new book, Paddle Your Own Canoe.

Doomed by Chuck Palahniuk.
Good, but not as great as Damned, I don't think.

Next up is Jim Henson's biography.

150pgs into "Infinite Jest" and I can't go on. It bores me. And I hate quitting on books too.

Most people give up when they get to "Wardine by cry."

Reading LW's discourse on IJ is one of my fondest memories from the old forum.
