And honestly, posting on rm made me much more self aware about what I love, what I like, what it am indifferent to, and what I dislike. Especially the guided tour threads and sotm threads

Most of the time it's just metal thats about vikings or the dark ages with flutes and bagpipes on top.

folk metal usually just sounds like metal covers of folklore music, and it's very corny and lame (see: Eluveitie)

but every metal band that incorporates acoustic instruments is automatically labelled as folk metal even when they have nothing to do with that

Oh, okay. My experience with "folk metal" mainly comes from this german scene. Bands like In Extreme or Subway To Sally. There's absolutely nothing folk about it except for using instruments like bagpipes, violins and flutes sometimes.

My Father's Son isn't just the best song on this album. It's one of their best ever. I could see it on anyone's top 10 list or something, and I'd totally understand. Holy shit it's amazing. That alone makes this album special, and ranks it above their past 2-3 for me.

I was having a thought process related to this last night, though not to MFS in particular. Might get a chance to write it out here in a little bit.

My Father's Son has grown on me considerably, it's now potential vying for top song on the album. The attitude is killer. I'm not usually a fan of the punkier side of PJ, but they executed both of the "punkier" songs on this album really well in MYM and MFS, especially the latter.

MFS is my fav on the album...it was the first song I listened to when they released the stream and now i cant stop listening to it...the bassline is just filthy and the guitar effects blend perfectly with eds vocal delivery....

This is actually hilarious and life-affirming in all the wrong ways, like a good / bad movie. I quite enjoyed it.

of the "new" songs, this seems to be the consensus:

- My Father's Son:
This song has suprised us. We were intrigued by the reviews but the anger delivered in the song is more intense. Bigger rocker than assumed.

- Infallible:
More poppy than we thought it would be. Overall, we were looking for more "You Are" or "No Way". Even with the poppy chorus, the song is still a favorite.

- Pendulum:
Pretty much exactly what we hoped for and thought it would be.

- Sleeping by Myself:
This one suprises us in a great way. The band elevated the song. Very enjoyable. Much more than predicted

- Yellow Moon:
Not sure it is much different than we thought. A well liked song which is about what we thought.

- Future Days:
We still don't like it.

I can't wait for a high quality rip of this. Every song except Sirens is doing at least something for me, and many of them have an exploratory feel that I've been waiting for from PJ for a while. My LP hasn't shipped from SSD yet, so I'm worried it won't come by Tuesday, but I'll be driving up to Worcester that day anyway so won't have time to listen after class

After listening to the album about 4 times now...Infallible and Pendulum easily get stuck into my head.

I still say Infallible reminds me a little of I Appear Missing from the new Queens of the Stone Age Album.


Future Days is...I don't know. If I don't listen to the Piano, it sounds like Eddie is playing his acoustic guitar in an Irish pub backed by a violin player...and that sounds great to me. The piano is BOB shooting his load on an otherwise decent song.

And BOB looks just like BOB ROCK now a days. Maybe PJ should have worked with Rock instead.

That being said, I really like the album!
