I really did not like the original version. Completely forgettable. With the band though it has become something more. I dig it.

This has to be the biggest surprise on the album. The response to this song was destined to be either negative or apathetic. I expected to be the former. But this is a fun song. Nothing like exists in their catalog. The band version as elevated a good song to great.

I'm amazed at how positive the response has been, especially from me.Habitman wrote:This has to be the biggest surprise on the album. Re: Sleeping By Myself (Pearl Jam)
Yeah, me too. It's a top drawer tune. Amazingly, it's not really what I'd imagined or wanted for the drums. But I didn't imagine Matt would do what I wanted anyway, as he never really does. The fact that we still got something great, and Matt does *other* stuff I didn't expect but still like... that's pretty much unprecedented.Mike wrote:I'm just so happy to have Sleeping By Myself in this version.harmless wrote:Mike wrote:This...this is so hard to say...but...

yeah, I'm pretty happy this was included. It's the song I'm reaching for the most right now, although i wouldn't call it my favorite.Mike wrote:I'm just so happy to have Sleeping By Myself in this version.harmless wrote:Mike wrote:This...this is so hard to say...but...

I love how the acoustic guitar sounds on this song.

This one has a strange charming effect on me. It ranks about mid-pack for me on this album, yet, its the one I want to immediately hit the repeat button as soon as its finished.

It's such a likeable song. When was the last time a pearl jam song was this likeable?

Re: Sleeping By Myself (Pearl Jam)
I'm shocked, too, at how well I've responded to this version--it is great. That said, I still struggle with it's inclusion on the album; however, I'm willing to accept it now. As I said in another thread, the biggest waste of space on LB is far and away, Future Days.
Place a proper version of Of The Earth after SBM then have Yellow Moon close out the album
