Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

I would give Earthling

Even though the combined weight of Pearl Jam is less than the Earthlings, that's only because there are more Earthlings in the band. Ed counts his kids as Earthlings, etc.

So don't come at me with the weight argument.

It doesn’t go, even once, on the freeway.

Earthling is a cool record and I really enjoy it. Of course, the songs I like the most are the ones most around here like the least (Picture, for example). And I don't really love some of the ones RM calls "heavy hitters" (The Dark, I'm looking at you). But it's a solid record.

Still, I find it uneven, overlong, and poorly produced.

I'm glad we have both records and there's no reason to have to choose between them. Listen to both! But I do think Gigaton is a far superior album and one I actively look forward to listening to. I kinda forget Earthling exists sometimes. But then a random song comes on a playlist or whatever and I remember and I sometimes listen to it. I usually skip around though. Not the case with Gigaton.

I’ll take Gigaton pretty comfortably still. Earthing is a nice shot in the arm with good songs. Appropriately punchy. Does what it sets out to do.

Gigaton is a fantastic album. It manages to balance the sound the band has been trying to get to for now the second half of their career while still managing pleasant surprises and textures along the way. It does quite frankly what Backspacer and Lightning Bolt couldn’t, and surpasses what the self-titled did.

Both albums exceeded my expectations. But Gigaton really crushed them. Its easily the better album of the two.

the nice thing about Earthling is that I had no expectations; I was glad that I liked most of it but wouldn't have cared much if I hadn't

the reason Gigaton is so excellent to me though is that, no matter how hard I try, I can never stop wanting the next Pearl Jam album to be excellent, and it was?! I'm still stunned honestly

i love both, yeah Gigaton is better and mostly because, for me, PJ will always be better than solo Ed. Its the sum of all those guys together making music what i love the most about the band.

Earthlings was a fucking great surprise, Ed sounds like 1996 and the album has a looseness and vibe i wasnt expecting from a solo release.
BONE FUCKIN´ TOMAHAWK.
