holy shit. which ones? it has not a single one for me... the highest would be Pendulum at a 4.5/5 and Getaway 4/5

their last 5/5 song for me would be 'All or None' 10 years ago :|
Opinions do be different, yo. I like a lot of these new crop very much. I couldn't give two shits about All or None.
best PJ closer post '00 for me... stunning/gorgeous song... not cheesy dreck like Sirens, Future Days, Just Breathe, The End, etc.
All or None is kind of boring. I do think it's better than Future Days, though. Not those other songs.

The End defines boring PJ ballads for me. and Just Breathe has Ed's annoying "awwwww huhhhhh"

For example, Release is a 5-star song. How can any song on LB be a 5-star song when compared to that? Ya gotta grade your PJ on a curve, people!
:nice: :nice: :nice: :nice: :nice:
how can any song from Binaural or Riot Act be 5 stars compared to that?

Even within the 5 star range there's lots of room.

I don't know if any songs on here will be 5 stars. But quite a few will come close.
not really.. 5/5 = essentially a perfect song that you have zero complaints about, of which that hasn't happened for a decade with me

well shit, Corduroy is my second favorite pearl jam song and I have some minor complaints.

My Father's Son would be good if the lyrics weren't so fuckin obvious. You don't use the word psychpath in a song, you describe him.

The End defines boring PJ ballads for me.

We should have some kind of duel to settle this definition.

Opinions are great and I'm expressing mine. It's art. I understand. No right or wrong.

I think that when you rate a song a "5" or a "4" or even a "1" you've got to look how you've rated similar PJ songs in that category and ask yourself: "Do these belong in the same recognition or category?"
Considering my name here is 'Release_Me', I would know when I grade something a 5 that it should stand up to songs like that. And the ones I think are 5 star songs on LB really do. This isn't the relative ranking that some people throw around based on the assumption that nothing post 2000 can touch the 90s stuff, or whatever. This is what these songs make me feel, on an absolute level. They stand up to the best ones, for me. I would get it if they don't for others, but I can only write what I feel.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

i'm being very generous in saying this album is a 6.5-7/10

but that said, it's still not even in my top 40 albums for 2013 at this point... :?

Why is it so hip to constantly be dumping on O'Brien? The dude didn't demand his name be printed big in the liner notes.

Also, where's his credit for the good songs? People dump on him for "Future Days," but was he not in the studio for "Getaway" or "Pendulum"?

Also, he produced the band's best work, so...perhaps the blame for the bad shit lies mostly with the band. They're the ones who allow everything to happen. If they trust the bad ideas of their producer, that's their own fault.

Let's not forget "In Hiding" has fucking piano all over it.

Release has too much hurr durr going on to be 5*.

Binaurals got 5*s up the wazoo!

Maybe he's a weirdly self aware psychopath.

True story: when you're grading each song 1-5, each number has to have its own spectrum. There's no way you can give hundreds and hundreds of PJ songs a score from 1-5 without further clarification and disagreement. You'd need to score them from 1-50, maybe.

I find it difficult to judge using star ratings because, for me, there's often a difference between what I love and what I classify as brilliant. It's why Ten is my favourite but I view Vitalogy as PJ's "best". A heart/head division, perhaps.

ok, 1/10 then ;)

so... in that case, there's nothing on this album higher than an 8.5/10 for me (Pendulum being the high water mark)

the lowest would be Future Days at 4/10, Let The Records Play 4.5/10, Sleeping By Myself 5/10, Sirens 6/10

how's that?
