Two sophisticated explorations of fairly complex themes - but Immortality's cold lushness is incredible - every moment of that song is wonderful.

Immortality and it isn’t even close, but no doubt it will be eliminated. Hail Hail is absurdly overrated on this forum.

Hail Hail for me.

I think the contrast with Sometimes bleeds into for me.

But on its own, Hail Hail is quintenssential.

"Hail Hail": Loud, passionate, feverish, desperate, everything is in the red, has a cool bridge, builds to a chaotic climax that feels overwhelming and oppressive until the chiming arpeggios at the end finally let the air out, features Jack Irons

"Immortality": Sluggish, musically pretty boring, corny lyrics, doesn't have a real bridge, the ending is kind of awkward, inspired songs such as Staind's "It's Been a While," does not feature Jack Irons

The choice is clear folks

Hail hail is far more cerebral and contemplative than it is feverish or desperate or oppressive. It’s puzzling through an idea until it gives up on trying to understand it. Some good lyrics but it is a slightly flat performance that is a good fit for a song that thinks but doesn’t really feel. It’s a good song but thesound is right

Immortality does great work unpacking a few core metaphors, but hail hail probably does have better lyrics. But it does not have immortal’s gorgeous performances all around. Truly one of their finest moments that ties together but intentionally doesn’t answer (because it can’t) it’s albums central questions.

That shitty bands latch onto great songs is not the fault of the songwriter. I’m sure the world has no end of shitty Beatles covers, too

I'm talking about the music and the performances, which is what still appeals to me about the Pearl Jam songs that still appeal to me. I don't think they're very good lyricists so that mostly sinks to the background, even on their best songs.

Yeah sure. That part is a jokey jab

I voted Hail, Hail. I'm surprised Immortality is so far ahead.
